Phu Yen is seen to have great advantages and potential for tourism development. The province aims to make tourism a key economic sector by 2030.
With a nearly 190-km coastline featuring many charmingly untapped winding beaches, coastal cliffs, bays, lagoons and capes, the province has a lot of gorgeous landscapes and charismatic tourist destinations like Cu Mong Lagoon, O Loan Lagoon, Vung Ro Bay and Xuan Dai Bay.
Phu Yen is also well-known for its rich history and culture when it is home to 21 nationally certified historical, cultural, architectural, and scenic sites and 45 provincially certified sites. The province is endowed with stone cultural heritages highlighted by Nui Da Bia National Heritage, Da Dia Reef and Da Trang Pagoda. The most typical stone cultural heritages in Phu Yen are stone trumpets and lithophones made more than 2,500 years ago.
The unique cultural feature of Phu Yen is the exchange of the many distinctive cultures of 31 ethnic groups. The province has many festivals initiated by coastal residents, such as Cau Ngu Festival, as well as folk songs and dances. Especially, the art of group drum and gong performance, Bai Choi (folk singing and game) and Cau Ngu Festival are certified national intangible cultural heritages.
In response to the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress (2020 - 2025 term), Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee launched the Action Program on tourism development investment in 2021 - 2025, aiming to make tourism a leading economic sector by 2030. Accordingly, the Phu Yen Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed a range of solutions like planning and mobilizing investment resources for tourism infrastructure development and services. The department continued to diversify and improve the quality of tourism products, and build a number of locally characteristic tourism products. The agency fostered digital transformation and information technology application tourism, especially in tourism promotion and advertising.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thai, Acting Director of the Phu Yen Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “To develop sustainable tourism and bring high value, it is important to have a synchronous infrastructure system like tourist service points, accommodation facilities, and a quality and efficient transport system. Therefore, Phu Yen province has been focusing on calling and attracting investment resources for infrastructure development to create momentum for tourism development.”
Specifically, Phu Yen is calling for investment funds for coastal transport infrastructure and traffic development projects around Xuan Dai Bay, O Loan Lagoon and Sea Lake; for waterway transport infrastructure projects; for projects to build roads to monuments, scenic spots and likely tourist areas.
| After the COVID-19 pandemic, Phu Yen tourism industry has recovered and developed positively. In the first seven months of 2022, Phu Yen province welcomed 904,100 visitors, up 177.7% year on year, including 2,670 foreigners, up 78%. Hotel guests reached 638,228 in the reporting period, up 149.6% year on year, including 2,453 foreigners, up 56.6%. Total tourism revenue reached VND1,110.3 billion, up 231.5%, including VND192.6 billion of accommodation revenue, up 168.3%. |
Furthermore, the province is seeking investment capital to build tourist resorts of national and regional class in Xuan Dai Bay, Da Dia Reef, Vung Ro Bay and Van Hoa Plateau; invest in cruise ships, high-class resorts and golf tourism; invest in hotels, resorts, amusement parks, restaurants, shopping centers, night services, clinics and gyms; invest in tourist vehicles, ports and wharves in Xuan Dai Bay, O Loan Lagoon, Chua River, Vung Ro Bay and other places to support marine tourism development; and invest in developing services and stopovers for western tourist routes and waterway tourism routes linked to folk art performances.
