Lying in the western gateway to Can Tho City, Vinh Thanh district has an important and strategic position in the city's economic and urban development. From a low starting point, the district has gradually risen and achieved good results in many fields. Its advantages have been better recognized and brought into full play.
Rich potential
Nearly 80km from the downtown of Can Tho City, Vinh Thanh district is endowed with great potential for economic and social development. The district has built and upgraded many important traffic routes such as National Highway 80, 24-km Cai San River route, Road WB5 linked to Thanh Loc commune and Kenh E - Thoai Son Canal. In addition, the Lo Te - Rach Soi traffic route launched in early 2021 has helped reduce the distance to districts of Can Tho City and provinces of Kien Giang and Dong Thap and opened up new prospects for Vinh Thanh to attract investment, develop production and business.
Local leaders at working visit to an industrial park
Vinh Thanh has huge potential for high-quality agriculture, food processing industry and fishery thanks to its abundant material sources. The district has planned and gradually formed specialized production areas like high-quality organic rice; encouraged the development of orchards, crops and short-term industrial plants; developed traditional professions like making rice paper, spring rolls and shrimp paste.
In addition, the district is home to the 900-ha Vinh Thanh Industrial Park, which is added to the Vietnam Industrial Park Development Plan under the Prime Minister's Document 156/TTg-CN dated February 4, 2021 on the addition of Can Tho Industrial Park Planning.
Vinh Thanh Industrial Park has easy access to traffic routes to neighboring provinces. It is near Vam Cong Bridge connecting to Kien Giang province and Ho Chi Minh City, and the Soc Trang - Can Tho - An Giang Expressway project. When the project goes into operation, it will open up prospects of attracting investment capital and creating more resources for the economic development of Vinh Thanh district and Can Tho City in general.
Vinh Thanh has tapped these potential advantages to boost socio-economic development. In the first six months of 2022, the total production value reached VND4,436 billion, or 52% of the full-year plan, 6.90% higher than a year earlier period. Total revenue of consumer goods and services amounted to VND1,025 billion, equal to 47.67% of the yearly plan and up 27.49% year on year. The economic structure changed in a positive direction.
Stronger investment attraction, sustainable development
Vinh Thanh has focused on developing a modern countryside according to advanced criteria and attracting investment capital for rapid development of industry, handicrafts, trade and service. The district has strived to have a total production value of VND46,490 billion in the 2021-2025 period, achieve an annual budget growth of at least 12%; and reduce the poverty rate to less than 0.5%.
To realize these goals, the district has encouraged agriculture-supported industries such as food processing, agricultural materials, aquatic processing, animal and fowl feed; reorganized production to develop the rural economy according to new countryside criteria, create jobs, and increase incomes and raise people's living standards.
In trade and service, the district has diversified products and services; better met social needs; and created product brands in the market. The district has completed planning and procedures for calling for tourism development investment, especially ecotourism, experience and cultural tourism in association with cottage industry development.
In industry and handicraft, Vinh Thanh has called for investment funds for constructing planned industrial complexes, especially two roads to an industrial cluster and a resettlement area in Vinh Trinh commune, and created a favorable environment to draw investment funds to tap local potential and advantages. Furthermore, the district has mobilized all available resources for socioeconomic infrastructure construction and new rural development.
Regarding support for businesses and investors, Mr. Doan Quoc Su, Chairman of Vinh Thanh People's Committee, said Vinh Thanh will publicize planning information and investment attraction and facilitate investors to carry out their projects. In particular, the district is committed to quickly solving problems such as site clearance, regulatory environment, administrative procedures and security.
“The district will continue to hold regular meetings, dialogues and exchanges with enterprises to promptly grasp their difficulties, helping them invest in stable business and development. Vinh Thanh will apply preferential and incentive policies for enterprises to upgrade equipment and machinery and transfer new technologies,” he affirmed.
