Extensive application of science and technology
Over the past years, the field of science and technology in Can Tho city has been transformed strongly, especially since the implementation of Resolution 02-NQ/TU dated August 1, 2016 of Can Tho Party Committee on the development and application of science and technology. In particular, market development and scientific and technological services are outstanding strengths with many achievements, research activities focusing on practical application and practical effectiveness.
Scientific and technological research and application solutions have been synchronously deployed in all industries, fields of production and life. These have affirmed the role and position of scientific and technological activities in the cause of local socio-economic development.
The city has typical application models of agriculture 4.0 such as the hydroponic vegetable growing model according to Israeli technology; application of drip irrigation technology and cloud computing; controlling irrigation, spraying pesticides automatically on orchards. In particular, the application of hydro-meteorological sensor solutions helps recognize information for pest prevention measures, regulating proper nutrition, reducing production costs, saving time and effort.
The Department of Science and Technology has supported enterprises to improve technology and put new technical advances into production to increase scale, improve quality, and lower product costs.
The Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho has organized the councils to accept and transfer the applications of science and technology tasks in the field of digital technology, serving the local state management units such as the Project of "Research on building a HoneyWall system to serve the protection of websites of administrative and non-business units in Can Tho city" and the Topic of "Research on building intelligent systems to support, ask and answer administrative procedures in Can Tho city”.
Toward the region's scientific and technological center
Over the past years, Can Tho People's Committee has issued many plans to promote the development and application of science and technology in general and technology 4.0 in particular. Typical plans include Plan 98/KH-UBND to implement guidelines, policies and solutions to strengthen capacity to participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution; Plan 266/KH-UBND to apply new technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to serve the socio-economic development of Can Tho city in the period of 2021-2025; Plan 170/KH-UBND to support and develop science and technology enterprises in Can Tho city by 2025.
The city has clearly defined goals and drastically implemented the policy of "making science and technology a real top national policy", initially forming an ecosystem of science and technology, innovating to promote development. In 2022 and the following years, Can Tho city is determined to continue the action program to conduct the third breakthrough stage of the Resolution of the 14th Can Tho Party Congress, for the 2020-2025 term.

Can Tho currently has 4,261 industrial property protection titles granted to more than 1,200 businesses, organizations and individuals, including 4,030 trademarks, 203 industrial designs, 20 inventions and 8 utility solutions ( 20% higher than the target of Resolution 02-NQ/TU of Can Tho Party Committee on the development of science and technology application). Can Tho's scientific and technological products and services have increasingly met the needs of the Mekong Delta market in particular and the country in general. Some can compete with foreign products. |
Accordingly, Can Tho will develop and implement programs and projects to support businesses to apply technology, implement digital transformation, and improve productivity, quality and competitiveness. It will implement the five city-level scientific and technological tasks to research and apply key technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
In addition, the city will prioritize resources for research, development and technology application activities in the area in line with the socio-economic development strategy and plan in the four areas that Can Tho has competitive advantages, including: digital technology, physics, biotechnology, energy and environment.
It prioritizes investment in the transfer and application of new technologies, step by step improving the competitiveness of enterprises through programs and projects such as: "Program to support enterprises in technological innovation", "Program to support development of intellectual property", and "Project to improve productivity and quality of products and goods of enterprises", "Support to develop innovative start-up ecosystem".
“In the coming time, the city will invite big enterprises and international organizations to invest or participate in investing and sponsoring the construction of national and regional research institutes and centers in Can Tho city. It will expand cooperation and association with other localities in the region; promote solutions to connect supply and demand in the scientific and technological market through the development program of trading floors”, said Mr. Ngo Anh Tin, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho city.
