Ha Nam Vocational College- Helping Hand for Province’s Breakthrough

Established in October 1967 with many different names, on July 11, 2007, the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs signed the decision to rename the school to Ha Nam Vocational College. The school is responsible for training and retraining students at college and lower levels, with key majors of industrial electricity, automotive technology, rural electrification, welding, network administration, and driving. According to long-term development objectives adopted by the board, the school will soon become a high-quality human resource training centre for Ha Nam province and the country.

 

With the mission of training high-quality human resources, adhering to the market demand and meeting development demand of the integration process, Ha Nam Vocational College is always a bright educator in Ha Nam province. Its huge contributions have been recognised with many honours and awards, including the Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Transport, Flag for Excellent Performance from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and many titles from the Provincial People’s Committee, and other organisations. Especially, the college was awarded the Third Class Labour Order by the State President in 2011. It is also one of 109 schools in the country with outstanding achievements in human resources training and development in Vietnam.

 

Currently, the college trains three main majors (Industrial electricity, automotive technology, rural electrification) at various levels, from primary vocational, technical worker and secondary vocational to college. In recent academic years, the school has enrolled 1,200 - 1,500 students a year. After more than half a century, it has trained 26,000 technical workers for the country. Many graduates are now highly respected professionals, skilled workers and managers in public bodies and enterprises.

 

These results come from the school’s policy for building up professional, enthusiastic teachers to meet training quality requirements. Under the guideline “Never care for quantity, just quality," the school always tries to perfect the teaching staff and create the most favourable conditions for teachers to work and follow higher professional training courses. Every year, it organises skill competitions for teachers. Besides, it spends a lot on upgrading teaching equipment and materials to match real modern production conditions (automotive technology, industrial electricity, welding and information technology). Currently, all teachers hold qualifications granted by the General Department of Vocational Training. 95 per cent of 125 staff members hold university degrees and 20 per cent of teachers hold master’s degrees. The school annually sends its teachers to attend national skill contests and they consistently win lofty achievements.

 

The school always focuses on training students with practical skills. Up to 70 per cent of class time is for practising. The quality of graduates is highly appreciated by employers. Up to 90 - 100 per cent of graduates are employed by companies immediately after they leave school.

 

Rector Do Quang Trieu said the current achievement is the result of the effort of the entire staff and students, as well as the attention and support of central and local governments. In the coming time, the school will apply demand-based, or order-based, training for companies after it has successfully cooperated with many companies to apply this form of training at their factories, like Ha Nam Textile Company, Saigon - Phu Ly Beer Company, Minh Hien Co., Ltd, Fecon - Ha Nam Company, and Viglacera Company.

 

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, one of the key tasks of the school is general training for the labour market. For some subjects (industrial electricity, automotive technology, and rural electrification) it has been gradually reaching ASEAN labour training standards. To do this, apart from its own effort, the college expects support and attention from Ha Nam province and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to build infrastructure and equipment to serve teaching and learning on the expanded campuses in Phu Ly City and Kim Binh commune, Kim Bang district.

 

With its constant endeavours, the Ha Nam Vocational College has asserted its role in manpower supply for the local socioeconomic development. Despite numerous difficulties, the school is still determined to become a prestigious centre of training and technology transfer to meet high-quality training demand, serve industrialisation and modernisation, and contribute to raising the ratio of trained workers to 45 per cent by 2015.
